I stumbled on excerpts of an interview that Sam Worthington granted last week and I was fired up by what I read. Before you begin to wonder who this guy is, let me quickly help you. You must have had about the film called AVATAR. Yeah! He was the lead actor in the movie where he played Jake Sully.
So, what’s new? I am not really a movie person if I were to be one, I would have been part of the Avatar premiere in London last December. But the thrilling thing for me was that Sam Worthington, who is now 33 years, used to be a bricklayer and just about 3 years ago he used to live in his car. But he said he woke up one morning and looked at himself in a mirror and didn’t like what he saw and guess what he did- in his own words, I CONTROL+ALT+DELETE-d myself (that’s smashing!)
‘Control+Alt+Delete’ is a computer command that restarts the computer. Sam Worthington decided to restart his life.
How? He sold all he had from flat screen TV to the least of his personal belongings and used the proceeds to buy a ‘crappy car’. He took some books with him and a few clothes and then drove off….. the rest his history. Today, just 3 years later he scaled through the auditions for the lead actor role of the movie that has recorded gross revenue of over 2 billion dollars and has beaten all the records available in the movie industry history and even that of Titanic. Sam Worthington has won countess man of the year awards to date.

Bottom line
I don’t intend to analyse any criticism behind the Avatar movie but that you can restart from wherever you are and still make good of this one life that you’ve got.
On Aston Villa match days, I observe the way people troop across the street where I live and pay so much for parking spaces. I live about 5 minutes walk from Aston Villa stadium and I just wonder how passionate people can be at something that adds nothing to their living. Worse still when I flash back at my times back in Nigeria how people do all they can to watch football matches by their favourite clubs with generating set, Satellite subscription and all the inconveniences for the football madness that has gone global. If only people can be as passionate about their very lives as much as they do for other things.

What to do;
Come to your senses
Like the prodigal son in the scripture above, he finally came to his senses. Although he had taken his part of the father’s inheritance, he decided to have a new start. Sam Worthington restarted as young as 29 years and in 3 years he hit it. How old are you now? It doesn’t matter how old you are-start afresh.
Move from decision to action
Many after reading this piece will just discard of it. I desire that you will not just make a decision to start pursuing your dream if you have lost it but that you will back it up with commensurate actions. Get those books. Get the skill, the qualification or certification and develop yourself.
Be Relentless
Keep on….Obstacles will come. Sam Worthington has many weaknesses- he has a blurred vision, he lost at the induction to become the next James Bond but in spite of his failures and limitations, he bounced back.
Friends, when you look at yourself in the mirror of life, what do you see? Do you see yourself living in the reality of your childhood dreams? If not, do something. Don’t lose that dream. Like the prodigal son, if you have strayed from your Heavenly father, reconnect with Him and He will receive you back and stop chasing after the wind.
Shall we pray;
Lord, help us to make the most of this one life that you have given us. Amen

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.

Do you find yourself easily distracted? Have you started facing some discouragement already in this New Year? May be the year doesn’t even feel NEW because of some of the experiences of last year like joblessness, emptiness, lack and struggles that you seem to still have. Yes, you laugh when your friends and family are there but when you are alone you know you’re on your own. You know these negative experiences should not continue if this year must bring the good that you are anticipating.
Like Paul, even with his privileged Roman citizenship, his training in the best schools of his day and all his achievements before He met the savior and after he said in the words above, ‘I have not achieved it (meaning he is not yet where he is going) but the only thing he does is to focus on one thing: TO FORGET THE PAST AND KEEP LOOKING FORWARD!

I wish I could sound it clearer. This kind of attitude will help you to move on with your life in spite of whatever you face in 2010.
Yes, you were just fired and your take home didn’t take you home.
Yes, since you have been applying for jobs not even one have called you.
Yes, you have a job but you are merely surviving because the job takes all your time and you live from pay cheque to pay cheque.
Yes, most of the employers have called you for interviews but their promise of getting back to you has never materialized.
Yes, you look at some of your colleagues, old school mates and you try to avoid them because of your situation.
Yes, you don’t have any stable source of income and you wonder if this is how your life will continue.
I am sorry to tell you that all these may continue until you deliberately and consciously decide to CHANGE YOUR FOCUS!

I remember one of the most resounding instructions God gave me about this year is that I should be resilient, which is the ability to bounce back like an elastic rubber after being bent.
Three things to change your focus from this year;
From FEAR to FAITH
Fear incapacitates. Fear limits and sees impossibilities. But you can change your focus from fear to faith this year. Refuse to give up. Faith is seeing the things that are not yet as if we already have them. Don’t speak words of fear even if things around you are scary. Speak words of hope and faith about your future. Words of faith are power and they work. Don’t stand around fearful people because they will influence you. Just do all you can to move your focus from that of fear to faith. And faith comes by hearing what God says in his Word.

From FAULTS to STRENGTH
We all make mistakes but the difference between people is that those who will succeed will not spend time morning their mistakes but just learn from it and move on with their lives. Who do blame for your present predicament? Some blame their parents for not sending them to school, others blame it on the government, economy or political party. Until you shift your focus from your faults and weaknesses and begin to focus on your areas of strength, then there is a problem. There is a something you can do better than others. As a matter of fact, everyone has an area of weakness and there is no situation that is peculiar to you. Dust yourself, look within and explore your untapped strengths. Stop playing the blame game.

From PAST to FUTURE
Why do you focus on the past when you know you can’t do anything about it? Imagine you being in a vehicle and your driver keeps focusing at the back instead of looking ahead at top speed. What do you do? You scream- Face your front!
Anyone who focuses on the past is heading for a crash. This year is still new with so much potentials loaded inside it. Why do you want to continue driving the wheel of your life by focus on the errors in your past relationships, career choice, wrong investment decisions and failures? Can you unscramble eggs? There is no point crying over spilled milk.
Focus on the dreams of a better future that you have always had and continue to work at it. Work at it with all the strength in you as you look ahead. Let me scream it once again at your face. FACE YOUR FRONT, LOOK AHEAD BECAUSE THE WORLD IS WAITING FOR YOU!

Meditating on the experience of Isaac in Genesis 26, where Isaac was sent away from his place as a result of envy and on getting to a new place he decided to dig a well but the people of the land fought him over the land and took it up from him, he named the first well- Argument. But his men dug another well which they fought over again and he named that one- Opposition until he moved on to the one which he named Room enough and no one fought over that one.
Similarly, Peter the experienced fisherman having been frustrated throughout the night without catching a single fish but when Jesus told him to still let down the net for a catch, it was as if all hope was lost but Peter said, “nevertheless I will try because you say so”. And that one more single trial gave him a boat-sinking, net-breaking experience.
How often do we give up after a couple of attempts!
Someone once said, “Your result is the only proof that you have done your best”. The only thing that shows me that you are truly giving life all it takes is the fact that you have results to show for your efforts. This may sound mean but it is meant to propel you to work at your life till you get results.
Apostle Paul was an outstanding man of God who gave his divine calling everything till the point of death and would do anything for the gospel to be preached and so the prison, beatings, hazards, persecutions and afflictions didn’t really matter to him.
Friends, what is your purpose, pursuit, vision and passion for living?
How much time, energy, study and perseverance have you given your life?
What are you contemplating of giving up on?
What aspect of your life do you need to give just an extra attempt?
What well are you trying to dig?
How long have you been toiling without a catch?
Permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities: It is this, that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak. -Thomas Carlyle
God’s word for you today is to give your life an extra push by refusing to give up easily after a few attempts because until you have results to show, your attempts are not yet enough.

Take time out of your busy schedule to give the necessary attention to your very life and ask the sincere question, Why am I not getting the desired result?
Among others, the reasons why people give up are;
• Lack of a definite purpose for living. Before you can do more than what you are doing now, you must be sure that you have set out a definite purpose for your life which must be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-Bound (SMART). Psalms 37: 5
• Lack of divine direction. For me, divine direction is key. Don’t just jump at opportunities because others are doing it, let God lead you. You can only lead a stress-free life by allowing God to lead you through His Word. And one of the acid test for divine direction is PEACE and PROGRESS. Anything you do and you lose your peace is not of God. Be wise! Psalms 32: 8
• Lack of inner strength. See what Proverbs 24: 10 says, “If you fail under pressure, your strength is not very great”. Many just get fed up and tired easily. It is because of lack of strength within. God has what it takes to give us strength from within. No wonder Paul prayed that, “..from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit.” Ephesians 5: 17

I penned down these words on the airplane enroute Lagos to Dubai last week and I know it will bless you;
Do more than being a jobseeker, start creating jobs

Remember that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will win. All athletes practice strict self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I am not like a boxer who misses his punches. 1 Corinthians 9: 24 – 26 (NLT)
If there is any man who is enjoying a great time at the moment, it would be the man whose name and record-breaking feat strikes like a thunder bolt, Usain Bolt."Usain Bolt" who had his 23rd birthday last Friday 21st August. holds world and Olympic records in both the 100 metres and 200 metres and his name and achievements in sprinting have earned him the media nickname 'Lightning Bolt'.
But going through his biography, he said and I quote him, “Well I have been running good since I was 15, so this is no surprise to me. I am sure it is no surprise to a lot of people because I have been doing this from when I was young. I have been doing tremendous things from when I was young. So, this is no surprise to a lot of people”
After breaking the world records in Berlin, he said this in an interview session, “ I keep saying anything is possible. You work hard, you train hard. I still train very hard and running fast races doesn’t change that, but I keep telling you guys my aim is to become a legend”

The Jamaican sprinter in the Berlin games collected $320,000 in prize money comprising $60,000 for each gold medal and $100,000 per world record. Whoops!!
Do you also know that Bolt’s recent string of world records was clearly not an expected event, it is not only a world record but has made statisticians and mathematicians to go back to the table because they didn’t predict a 9.69 seconds until almost 2030 but Bolt even shattered this by running 9.58 seconds in Berlin in the 100meters. This is awesome to me for a 23-year old.
He broke the mathematical model that had fit 100-meter record data for almost a century, Bolt’s incredible performance could reset how fast researchers believe humans ultimately can run, but Bolt’s records, the scientists say is nowhere near human limit. Meaning it can still be broken!
To me this means there is still room for you and if not on the track and field but in our chosen professions, vocations, careers and ventures to set the pace, blaze the trail and break age-long records but this starts when we have a purpose for living.
Have a purpose for living!
I love to read biographies a lot and reading through the 23-year old life so far I learnt that he started out early in life although with a passion for the cricket at first but his coach spotted his performance on the pitch and encouraged him to focus more on the tracks. I challenge you to have a purpose for living. God is God of purpose and He has created us all to fulfill a mission on earth, however, He has given us the task to discover, find out, locate and identify the innate gift He has bestowed upon us.
God DETERMINES our purpose, We DISCOVER our purpose.
A man without purpose is a tragedy going somewhere to happen. This is because such a person will always be at the wrong place, wrong relationship, wrong job, wrong career and wrong company at every point in time. Oh! How frustrating to be without purpose. Even if the circumstances surrounding your birth seems accidental, you may be born whether out of wedlock, beside wedlock, under wedlock or before wedlock (whatever), God still has a purpose for your living.
A man without PURPOSE is not fit to live- Martin Luther King Jnr.
Characteristics of Purpose
• Purpose comes before creation;
• Purpose is from God;
• Purpose is permanent;
• Every purpose is unique
• Purposes are inter-related and;
• Purpose requires counsel.
Tips on discovering God’s purpose for your Life
We as humans have God as our ‘manufacturer’ and every manufacturer first determines the PURPOSE of a product and its functions before setting out to produce it, hence, the only genuine source for knowing your purpose is to ask from God if you believe He is your creator. However, since it is not all of us that can hear God distinctly, the following tips can guide us in the discovery of our purpose;
• Check out “that thing” that flows from you NATURALLY or EFFORTLESSLY.
What do you do for others or to better humanity without much stress. It could be singing, dancing, events organizing, public speaking, public relations, sports (like Usain Bolt). No one knows you like you. Settle down and find it out, it may be a pointer to your purpose.
• Check out “that thing” that people COMPLIMENT you for the most.
What do people thank you for the most? Have you led a team or a talk so well that people appreciate you so much but to you it seems normal to you? What do people like so much about you?
• Check out that thing that MOVES you the most.
What do you hate to see? Have you ever wished you could take care of abandoned children or children who are victims of broken and shattered homes? For instance, Mother Theresa found this as her purpose and she stood to address the United Nations. What problem do you wish you have what it takes to solve? Do you hate to see our policemen collect bribes? Do you hate to see violence? Are you hurt when children drop out of school because they can’t afford to pay their fees?
What moves you may become what you’re created to move.
Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don't bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality . Wake Up and Live! - Bob Marley
Please note: These are tips but it can go a long way in propelling you as you discover why you are here. Don’t just sit down and watch. Young boys and girls are already making striking impacts. When will you be shown to your world?

This “foolish” plan of God is far wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is far stronger than the greatest of human strength.
Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes, or powerful, or wealthy when God called you.
Instead, God deliberately chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose those who are powerless to shame those who are powerful.
God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important, so that no one can ever boast in the presence of God
I Corinthians 1: 25 – 29(NLT)
The poem below is put together to encourage as many people as God has instructed to do certain things but have refused to take steps because what God has told them doesn’t make natural sense- it just looks “foolish” or too simple to be true. I wrote these words out on 16th of December, 2003 when He was leading in a direction that seems will never lead to the right path, but 5 years later when I looked at my poem note yesterday and saw these words, I now understand better why He is called the Alpha and the Omega, hence the inscription above, which represents the first and the last letters of the Greek alphabet.
I can boldly say He is faithful to every jot of His word. Trust Him enough to commit your life to His hands.
Just do whatever He is leading you to do and leave the remaining with Him, He is ever faithful… digest it.
Do it!
It may not be sensible,
It may not be right,
It may not be clear,
It may not be wise but,
Whatever He tells you to do, do it!
How can water be turned to wine?
How can a rod path the sea?
How can I ever get any fish after toiling all night?
How can my skin be made whole from this leprosy?
Whatever He tells you to do, do it!
Make me know,
Make me understand,
Make me comprehend,
Make me realise but,
Whatever You tell me to do, I will do.
Why should I wait any longer?
Why should I wash in Jordan?
Why should I ever be saved again? But
Nevertheless at thy word, I will do whatever You ask me to do.
Remain blessed.
